“The heart cannot love what the mind does not know…if we want to feel deeply about God, wemust learn to think deeply about God…We must make a study of our God: what he loves, what he hates, how he speaks and acts. We cannot imitate a God whose features and habits we have never learned. We must make a study of him if we want to become like him. We must seek his face.”
-JEN WILKIN
The Mission
Part of the church’s role in discipleship and Christian formation is equipping the mind so that it can lead the heart. As we work toward deeper affections for God, we must learn more about him—his nature, his character, and his work in the world through Jesus. Risen Church Institute exists for that purpose: to equip the mind for the sake of leading the heart.
The Institute program consists of various classes and seminars, offered at different times throughout the calendar year.
Fall 2025
Christian Story is an 8-week course from 4:30-6:00pm on Sundays, Sept. 7 - Nov. 2, 2025. The cost is $20 per participant, plus $20 per child needing childcare during the course.
The story of the Scriptures is the greatest story ever told. It tells the story of creation, fall, redemption, and consummation. This eight-week course will provide an overview of the story of the Bible, with a special focus on the biblical covenants. This course aims to increase biblical literacy by rehearsing the main themes of the Bible, and to shape our affections by looking to Jesus, the hero of the story.
Textbook included with course cost: Christ from Beginning to End, by Trent Hunter and Stephen Wellum
